Our Enrichment Programs
Visual & Performing Arts
We believe strongly in the need for artistic expression. When you walk down our hallways at Glen Park School, you can see that art is infused in many of our daily activities. Highly skilled, credentialed art teachers come each week to lead the children in classes on dance, chorus, and instrumental music. In addition, classroom teachers engage students in visual arts with a variety of media. These opportunities are organized by our Arts Coordinator and the classroom teachers.
Our Garden
We are thrilled to have a beautiful garden and the Education Outside program at Glen Park School. Our children learn to care for the garden as well as transform it into a dynamic living laboratory for scientific quandary and discovery. The garden also serves to strengthen Glen Park School's focus on nutrition, exposing our students to many varieties of fruits and vegetables. Within the curriculum, we also stress the importance of sustainable practices such as recycling, composting and participating in walk/bike to school days.
Our GPS garden teacher goes above and beyond getting our children excited about the garden and greening our school.
StageWrite Partnership
Glen Park School partners with StageWrite to offer a theatre arts residency program to all of our students. The program empowers youth to become actively engaged in their education and passionate about learning through the theatre arts. They employ dramatic activities to involve young people in reading, writing, speaking, and listening as a holistic and meaningful communication process. Through the communal art of theatre, young people build skills in creative expression, collaboration and critical thinking: all necessary components of becoming literate and engaged members of an equitable society.
Our Library
All classes visit the library weekly to participate in lessons related to literature and information literacy. Our wonderful librarian Ms. Murray teaches students to choose books about topics they are interested in and how to access and evaluate information from print and online resources.
Family STEAM Nights
Our family enrichment nights are filled with fun learning opportunities that inspire our children in STEAM.—Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. These nights also serve to connect parents to their child’s learning process. We host STEAM nights each year to highlight fun activities for the children and bring families together in the learning process.
